5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide
Created from the Sermon: "Who Are We and What Are We Supposed to Do?"
Created from the Sermon: "Who Are We and What Are We Supposed to Do?"
Day 1: Made for More Than Conflict
Reading: Genesis 1:26-28 — God declares his intention to make humanity in his image, granting them shared dominion over creation.
Devotional: The world tells us life is a competition — that to rise, someone else must fall. But the Genesis origin story pushes back against every version of that lie. God did not create humanity out of conflict, violence, or chaos. He created us from community, speaking us into existence with intention and care. You are not an accident born from a cosmic battle. You are a deliberate creation, made to reflect the image of a God who has always existed in loving relationship. Today, ask yourself: am I living from a posture of conflict or community?
Reflection Question: In what areas of your life are you operating as though life is a zero-sum competition rather than a shared gift?
Practical Application: Identify one relationship this week where you have been guarding your resources, your time, or your heart. Take one small step toward openness and generosity in that relationship.

Day 2: The God Who Lives in Community
Reading: John 17:20-23 — Jesus prays that his followers would share in the same unity that exists between him and the Father.
Devotional: The mystery of the Trinity is not a theological puzzle meant to confuse us. It is an invitation. Before anything existed, God was already in relationship — Father, Son, and Spirit in an eternal dance of love and communion. When God said "let us make man in our image," the "us" was not accidental. We were shaped by community and shaped for it. This is why isolation wounds us so deeply, and why connection heals us so powerfully. Science confirms what Scripture has always declared: we are wired for one another. To resist community is to resist the very image we bear.
Reflection Question: How has isolation — chosen or forced — affected your spiritual and emotional health?
Practical Application: Reach out today to someone you have been meaning to reconnect with. A simple message or phone call can be a profound act of reflecting God's image.

Day 3: The Opposite of Addiction Is Community
Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 — The writer reflects on the strength and value found in partnership and companionship over going through life alone.
Devotional: We often treat our struggles as private matters — things to be managed quietly and alone. But the research is striking and the Scripture is clear: we were not designed to carry our burdens in isolation. The soldiers who came home from war and found community were the ones who found freedom. The ones who came home to emptiness could not break free no matter how hard they tried. God did not design a religion of lone rangers. He designed a body, a family, a community. Your healing may not come from more willpower. It may come from finally letting someone in.
Reflection Question: What burden are you currently carrying alone that was never meant to be carried that way?
Practical Application: Share something real with a trusted friend, family member, or pastor this week. Practice the vulnerability that community requires.

Day 4: What Do You Do With the Upper Hand?
Reading: Leviticus 19:9-10 — God instructs his people not to harvest to the very edges of their fields, but to leave portions for the poor and the stranger.
Devotional: God's law was never merely a list of rules. It was a blueprint for a society that reflected his character. The agricultural law about leaving the edges of the field unharvested is not complicated. It simply asks: when you have more than you need, will you remember those who have less? This is the question Jesus returns to again and again. In Matthew 25, the final judgment does not hinge on theological precision or religious performance. It hinges on what you did when you encountered someone weaker than yourself. Power is not a prize to be hoarded. It is a responsibility to be stewarded.
Reflection Question: Where in your life do you currently hold the upper hand — in resources, influence, health, or relationships? How are you using it?
Practical Application: Look for one concrete way this week to use your position of strength to protect or provide for someone who is more vulnerable.

Day 5: Be Saint George, Not the Dragon
Reading: Micah 6:8 — The prophet summarizes what God requires: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.
Devotional: Both Saint George and the dragon discovered the same village. Both had the power to do what they wished with it. One chose exploitation. One chose sacrifice. The difference was not strength — it was character. Jesus walked into a world that was being consumed by forces of fear, greed, and violence, and he chose the way of the cross instead of the way of the dragon. He calls us to follow. The path of justice, mercy, and humility is not glamorous. It does not always come with a reward before the watching crowd. But it is the path that leads home — back to the image we were created to bear.
Reflection Question: When you encounter someone in need or in weakness, what is your first instinct — to protect yourself or to step toward them?
Practical Application: This week, find one person who is on the underside of a power dynamic in your world — a coworker, a neighbor, a stranger — and do one deliberate act of kindness that costs you something real.
"Let us make mankind in our image." — Genesis 1:26
You were not made for the dragon's cave. You were made for the garden. Go live like it.
